We recommend and use these collars & harness:

Limited Slip Collars:

Limited Slip collars are often called Martingale dog collars. When these training dog collars are pulled they tighten to fit the dog’s neck exactly but are designed not to choke the dog. They work great for any dog that tends to back out of a collar.

Gentle Leader Collars:

Similar to a head halter used by horse riders, dog gentle leader collars are cheap and pretty easy to use. They work as a dog training collar and leash.

Also known as head collars, they are actually restraining devices, that when used with proper socialization training, can send a strong message to your pooch that you’re in charge and that his pulling and unruly jumping behavior is unacceptable. We have great success with these.

Easy Walk” Harness:

Unlike traditional collars, the Gentle Leader Easy Walk” Harness never causes coughing, gagging, or choking because the chest strap rests low across the breastbone, not on the delicate tracheal area.
Why it works:

Traditional harnesses can actually encourage dogs to pull harder because of the opposition reflex. That’s the reflex that makes sled dogs do what they do. The Gentle Leader Easy Walk” Harness redirects the pressure through the front leash attachment. And, our patent pending martingale closure tightens slightly across the chest and shoulder blades when your dog attempts to pull forward.

Quality features:

Included is a quick snap buckle on both the shoulder and belly straps to make it easier to get the harness on and off your dog.
The soft-but-strong nylon and 4 adjustment points provide maximum comfort and a reliable fit.
The complementary color of the belly strap makes it easier to identify each strap, while keeping the overall look pleasantly color-coordinated. You can quickly see which strap goes over the shoulders, and which goes under the belly.

Fitting Instructions

IMPORTANT:
Please read and understand all instructions before using the harness on your dog!

Identifying the parts:

The chest piece has a martingale loop with a D ring for attaching the leash.
The shoulder strap is made of the same color nylon as the chest strap and has the Premier fabric tag.
The belly strap is made of a complementary color.

Fitting the harness:

Open the quick snap buckle on the belly strap.
Place the shoulder strap over the dogs head with the chest strap resting on the dogs chest
Tighten belly strap to a comfortably snug fit. On medium-sized dogs, only allow room for about a fingers width under the strap. Allow a bit more for larger dogs, less for smaller dogs.

Gently press fingers on the lower part of the front of the dogs chest to locate the breastbone.
Adjust the shoulder strap so that when the chest strap is horizontal (parallel to the ground), the chest strap rests directly over the breast bone.

AFTER you have tightened both the shoulder and belly straps to allow only about a fingers width under the belly strap, adjust the chest strap to fit securely. It should rest nearly parallel to the ground, not hang down or gap.

You may need to remove the harness to make these adjustments. When the shoulder strap is fitted correctly, the chest strap should resemble a horizontal line (parallel to the ground), and it will rest directly over the breastbone. Attach the leash to the D-ring on the chest strap.

Using the Easy Walk” Harness:

The Gentle Leader Easy Walk” Harness is designed to gently discourage your dog from pulling while walking on a leash. And, its easy to use, requiring virtually no acclimation period or specialized training.
If your dog forges ahead of you, gently pull the leash to the side to turn the dog towards you. As he stops pulling, be sure to release the tension on the leash. Use praise and reward your dog with treats and/or petting.

To slow your dog when he is pulling ahead, apply gentle pressure to the leash, pulling gently toward one side of the dog. Release the pressure on the leash when the dog is walking nicely next to you.

Like all collars, leashes, and harnesses, the Gentle Leader Easy Walk” Harness is a tool designed to help you train your dog to walk politely.

We do NOT recommend using the Gentle Leader Easy Walk” Harness with a retractable leash. With a retractable leash, the dog is rewarded with additional leash when he pulls ahead. We want the dog to learn to NOT pull ahead. In addition, a retractable leash will always apply a slight constant pressure, teaching your dog it is okay to continue pulling.

Please Remember to:

Check the fit regularly, especially on growing dogs.
Examine the harness for signs of chewing, fraying, or damage.
Do not leave the harness on your dog unattended.

Under Certain Circumstances we may use these collars:

Dog Bark Collars

Bark collar dog training was designed to reduce undesired barking. When they sense barking an immediate and unpleasant stimulus is delivered.

Although bark collars by themselves are not the solution to a barking problem they can be very useful as one of your dog training tools when combined with other behavioral management techniques.

If you have a pooch that is in danger of loosing their home due to nuisance barking, a dog bark collar may be the perfect solution.

Bark collar dog training should never be used on anxiety related barking problems.

Citronella Bark Collars

Citronella collar dog training is another option when trying to control nuisance barking. These training dog collars are activated by noise. Citronella bark collars release a brisk spray of citronella under the dog’s snout every time the dog barks. Most dogs find citronella’s strong scent unpleasant and it acts as a distraction.

We Do Not Use OR Recommend These Collars:

Dog Prong Collars:

To a novice these training collars can look like medieval torture devices… now that’s pretty severe looking! Dog prong collars (also know as a pinch collar) are made of a series of interlocking chain with blunt (yes blunt!) metal prongs designed to rest on the dog’s neck.
When the collar is tightened, pressure is applied evenly around the dog’s neck by the metal prongs. Prong collars are much safer in the hands of an inexperienced dog owner than a traditional choke chain.

Remote Electronic Dog Training Collars

Electric dog collars (or electronic training collars) work by delivering a minimal shock as a correction. The shock is similar to a static electricity shock that you get from walking across a carpet.
During electronic dog collar training you should always set the electronic collar on a minimal setting and increase as necessary until the stimulus gets your dogs attention.

The minimal setting required will vary greatly from dog to dog. Because you operate these collars remotely dog e-collars are great for off lead training.

Just think how much safer you would feel if you were able to get your dog’s attention and correct her with an electronic training dog collar if she started running ahead of you towards the highway.

Electronic Dog Bark Collars

Unlike another dog training collar, electronic dog training shock collars are activated by the vibration caused by your dog’s bark.

Electronic dog bark collars won’t be accidentally triggered by environmental sounds… like a neighbor’s dog barking… or a car backfiring.

Sonic Bark Collars

Sonic bark collar dog training was designed to deliver a high-pitched noise to discourage nuisance barking. These are not as effective as other training dog collars on the market. It seems that as a dog gets used to their high pitched noise the dog may resume barking.
